If you are going to a map in another application, such as QuarkXPress, after you have worked on it in Illustrator, you must Export it as an “EPS” file. Although some layers of your map may not be visible, they will be included in the exported EPS file unless you delete the layers you don’t want. If you may want to keep the invisible layers for later editing, do the following:
1. Highlight the layers you DON’T want to export by clicking on each one while you hold down the shift key. Choose “Layer Options” from the pop-up menu at top right of the “Layers” palette:

2. Uncheck the “Print” box in the “Layer Options” dialog:
